Switch the power off at the wall and let the bulbs cool before you touch anything. Crystal marks with fingerprints, so handle the droplets with a soft cloth rather than bare hands. Dust with a dry microfibre cloth, and if a droplet dulls, wipe it with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away. Never spray cleaner at the fitting: liquid running down a strand ends up in the lampholder.

Crystal chandeliers are bought for one effect, and it is worth naming it: light entering a cut crystal droplet leaves it in several directions, so a single bulb becomes dozens of points of light on the ceiling and walls. Nine bulbs behind a full cascade of droplets is why a fitting like this changes a room rather than lighting it.
The droplets here are K9 crystal, which is the optical grade normally used for lenses. It is clearer than ordinary pressed glass and it holds an edge on the cut, which is what makes the refraction sharp instead of milky.
At 71cm across and 71cm deep this is a large fitting. Over a dining table it wants a table around 110cm to 140cm wide to look proportionate. In a stairwell or a double-height hallway it can hang lower and be seen from two floors, which is where a raindrop shape earns its keep.
It is compatible with flat, sloped, slanted and vaulted ceilings, and the fittings and ceiling plate are supplied.
Assembly is real work, and we would rather say so than have it arrive as a surprise. The frame goes together first, then every droplet is hung by hand. Set aside an evening, put the bulbs in before you hang the crystal, and it goes much faster.
Nine E12 bulbs at up to 100W each is 900W if you took the maximum, which nobody should. LED candle bulbs in E12 draw a fraction of that, run cool next to the crystal, and dim properly when paired with a dimmer rated for LED loads.

100W. In practice LED candle bulbs of 4W to 6W each are plenty and run far cooler.

What is K9 crystal?
An optical grade of glass, clearer than ordinary pressed glass and able to hold a sharper cut, which is what makes the refraction crisp.

Can I shorten the drop?
The fitting is a flush-mount style rather than a long chain drop, so the height is largely fixed by the 71cm body.
Is it heavy?
It is a substantial crystal fitting. Make sure the ceiling rose is sound and, if in doubt, have an electrician check the fixing.
Can I install it myself?
It is a hardwired mains fitting. If you are not confident with mains wiring, use an electrician.
Is it suitable for a bathroom?
No. It carries no IP rating, so keep it to dry rooms.
Which rooms does it suit?
Living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, foyers, hallways and stairwells.
Can it go in a stairwell?
Yes, and it is one of the better places for it, because a raindrop shape looks best seen from below and from the side.
What colour bulb should I use?
2700K warm white for a dining room. Cooler than 3000K starts to look clinical against clear crystal.
Will it flicker on a dimmer?
Only if the bulbs are not dimmable or the dimmer is not rated for LED loads. Match the two and it will not.
How do I clean the crystal?
Power off, let it cool, then dust with a dry microfibre cloth. For marks, a barely damp cloth dried straight away. Never spray liquid at the fitting.
Do fingerprints show?
On clear crystal, yes. Handle the droplets with a cloth during assembly.
Are spare droplets supplied?
The pack contains what the fitting needs. If a droplet is missing or damaged on arrival, contact us and we will sort it.
What if a droplet arrives broken?
Email us with your order number and a photo. That is a faulty-goods case under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and it is on us.

Does it come in any other finish?
This one is clear crystal on a chrome-toned frame only. For a black frame, look at the modern chandelier.
Is there a smaller version?

Living with a crystal chandelier
Crystal is the oldest trick in lighting and it still works, because it does something
no diffuser can: it splits a point of light into many. That is worth knowing before you
buy, because it also tells you where the fitting will disappoint. In a room with low
ambient light and a warm bulb, it sparkles. Behind net curtains in flat daylight, it is
just a big clear object.
Where it belongs
The two best places for a 71cm raindrop are over a dining table and in a stairwell.
Over a table it sits in your eye line while seated, which is exactly what you want from
crystal. In a stairwell it gets seen from more than one height, and a cascade shape
reads differently from each.
Bulbs, and why LED wins here
Nine E12 lampholders behind glass is a lot of heat if you fill them with incandescent
candle bulbs. LED candle bulbs draw a fraction of the power, stay cool next to the
crystal, and last long enough that you are not taking the fitting apart to change one.
Stay at 2700K. Anything cooler makes clear crystal look grey rather than bright.
The assembly, honestly
Hanging crystal by hand is the part people underestimate. It is not difficult, it is
repetitive. Build the frame, wire it in, fit the bulbs, and hang the droplets last with
the light already up. Working from a table with the fitting on its side is slower and
chips more glass than working overhead with the frame already fixed.
