Path lighting is one of the few outdoor jobs where solar genuinely beats mains. A mains path light means a trench, an armoured cable and an electrician. A solar one means pushing a stake into the ground, and if you decide next spring that it wants to be a metre to the left, you move it.

One honest limitation, and it applies to every solar light. Output depends on how much sun the panel actually gets. Under a hedge, on a north-facing wall or through a British December, they will run for fewer hours. Site them where they get the most sun, not just where you want the light.

They charge best in direct sun. They will charge on a bright overcast day, more slowly. Deep shade under a hedge is the one place they will disappoint.
What battery do they use?
A rechargeable NiMH battery, charged by the panel.
Can I replace the battery?
Rechargeable solar batteries do wear out after a few years. Whether this model's is user-replaceable is not stated by the maker, so we cannot promise it.
How bright are they?
They are accent and wayfinding lights rather than floodlights. Enough to show where a path goes, not enough to read by.
Are they bright enough for security?
No. For that, look at the solar spot light or the driveway lights.
Can I use them on a decking edge?
Only if the stake can go into something. On a hard deck, the solar spot light with its wall screws is the better option.
How do I clean them?

Solar path lighting, without the disappointment
Solar garden lights have a reputation, and it is mostly earned by people siting them
badly and then blaming the light. Three decisions make the difference between a set that
runs all night and a set that gives up at ten.
Put the panel where the sun is
The panel needs hours of direct sun, not hours of daylight. A stake under a hedge, on
the north side of a fence, or in the shade of the house for most of the afternoon will
charge slowly and run out early. If the spot you want lit is shaded, that is an argument
for a light with a separate panel rather than for a bigger battery.
Clean the panel
A month of dust, pollen and bird mess cuts charging noticeably. A damp cloth once a
month is the whole maintenance schedule, and it is the cheapest thing you can do for run
time.
Expect less in winter
Shorter days and a lower sun mean less charge. A solar light that ran until dawn in July
and goes out at midnight in December is behaving correctly. If that is unacceptable for
a particular path, that path wants mains lighting.
Spacing
Along a path, 1.5m to 2m apart reads as a lit route. Much wider and you get a row of
dots with dark ground between them, which is worse than nothing because it draws the eye
away from where you are walking.
