Looking after it

Turn the power off at the wall before you touch it. Dust the arms and dish cups with a dry microfibre cloth rather than a wet one, because water sitting in the cups will mark an aged finish. If a bulb blows, replace it with the same E14 rating rather than a higher wattage, and check the chain link screw cap is still closed after any adjustment.

Six Candle ArmsCurved iron arms with dish cups
Two FinishesAged Black or Bronze
Any CeilingFlat, sloped and vaulted
Height Adjusts90cm chain, shortens link by link

A six-arm wrought iron chandelier that suits a farmhouse dining room and a hotel foyer equally well.

Candle-style stems on curved iron arms, in an aged Black or Bronze finish, with a 90cm chain you can shorten link by link.

A six-light chandelier in wrought iron, built in the French country style: candle-shaped stems sitting in dish cups on six simply curved arms.

It comes in an aged Black or an aged Bronze finish. Both are the same price, and you pick the finish above the Add to Cart button.

The frame is 53cm across and 38cm deep, hung on a 90cm chain. The end link has a screw cap, so the chain shortens to any length without tools.

It fits flat, sloped and vaulted ceilings, and it is dimmable when you pair it with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch.

Takes six E14 bulbs up to 40W each. Bulbs are not included, which keeps the price down and lets you choose the colour temperature yourself.

Rustic Vintage Metal Chandelier, Bronze

A chandelier is the one light in a room that people look at rather than look by. This one is built for that job: six arms curving out from a twisted iron centre column, each holding a candle stem in a shallow dish cup, in a finish that reads as aged rather than new.

Rustic Vintage Metal Chandelier, Bronze

The two finishes behave differently in a room. Black sits back against a pale ceiling and reads as graphic and modern. Bronze catches warm bulbs and reads softer, closer to brass. If the room already has brass or antique gold ironmongery, bronze ties in; if it has black window frames or dark joinery, black does.

Rustic Vintage Metal Chandelier, Bronze

Height is the thing most people get wrong with a chandelier, and the chain here is the answer. It arrives at 90cm and the end link opens with a screw cap, so you hook it back onto whichever link gives you the drop you want. Over a dining table, the usual rule is the bottom of the fitting sitting 75 to 85cm above the table top.

Rustic Vintage Metal Chandelier, Bronze

It is compatible with flat, sloped and vaulted ceilings, so a hallway with a pitched roof is not a problem. All the mounting hardware is in the box, with the centre column screwing together before you offer it up to the ceiling.

Rustic Vintage Metal Chandelier, Bronze

Six E14 bulbs, 40W maximum each, are not supplied. That is deliberate. Bulb choice changes the character of this fitting more than anything else you can do to it, and a warm 2700K candle bulb in clear glass is a very different light from a frosted 4000K one.

Rustic Vintage Metal Chandelier, Bronze

It is a hardwired fitting on mains voltage. Unless you are competent and confident with mains wiring, have a qualified electrician put it up. That is not a disclaimer, it is the sensible order of events with a 3.22 kg fitting on a ceiling rose.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many bulbs does it take?

Six, all E14 fitting, 40W maximum each.

Are the bulbs included?

No. Bulbs are not supplied, so you can choose the colour temperature and the glass style yourself.

What finishes can I choose from?

Aged Black and aged Bronze. Both are £249, and you pick the finish above the Add to Cart button.

How wide is it?

The metal frame is 53cm across and 38cm deep, not counting the chain.

How far down does it hang?

The chain is 90cm as supplied. The end link opens with a screw cap so you can hook it back on at any link and shorten the drop.

How high above a dining table should it sit?

The usual guide is 75 to 85cm from the table top to the bottom of the fitting. Over an island, a little higher.

Will it fit a sloped or vaulted ceiling?

Yes. It is compatible with flat, sloped, slanted and vaulted ceilings.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, when you use dimmable bulbs together with a compatible dimmer switch. Neither is included.

What is the maximum total wattage?

240W, which is six 40W bulbs. Do not exceed it.

What voltage is it?

220V mains.

How heavy is it?

3.22 kg.

Can I fit it myself?

It is a hardwired mains fitting. All the hardware and instructions are included, but unless you are competent with mains wiring we would have an electrician do it.

Does it come with a ceiling plate?

Yes, all the mounting hardware needed is in the box.

What is it made of?

Metal, finished to look like aged wrought iron.

Is the Bronze one brass coloured?

It is an aged bronze, warmer and browner than brass, and it warms further under a 2700K bulb.

Which finish suits a black window frame?

Black usually ties in better with black joinery or window frames. Bronze suits rooms that already have brass or antique gold fittings.

What sort of bulb looks best in it?

A clear or frosted candle bulb, E14, in a warm 2700K. Clear glass shows the filament and reads more vintage.

Can I use LED bulbs?

Yes. Use LED candle bulbs with an E14 base, and if you want to dim them, buy dimmable ones and a compatible dimmer.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It carries no IP rating, so it is for dry indoor rooms only.

Can it go outside on a covered porch?

We would not. There is no IP rating on this fitting, so treat it as an indoor light.

What rooms does it suit?

Dining rooms, bedrooms, living rooms, hallways and foyers at home. It is also used in bars, restaurants and hotels.

Will it work in a room with a low ceiling?

Shorten the chain as far as it goes and measure first. At 38cm deep plus whatever chain you leave, it needs headroom, so a standard 2.4m ceiling suits a dining table better than a walkway.

How do I clean it?

Power off at the wall, then dust the arms and cups with a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid wet cloths, because water left in the dish cups marks an aged finish.

Is any assembly needed?

Yes. The pieces go together, the centre column screws up, and then you set the height and wire it in.

How long does delivery take?

5 to 7 days in the UK, after a 24 to 48 hour handling time.

How much is delivery?

Free on orders of £100 or more. Below that, express delivery is a flat £30, and express is available on any order for £30.

Can I change my mind after it arrives?

Yes. It is a stock item, so you have 14 days from delivery to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and a further 14 days to send it back.

What if it arrives damaged?

Email us with your order number and a photograph. We put it right at our cost under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Do you sell matching wall lights?

We sell wall sconces and vanity lights, though not a matched set to this chandelier. The wall sconce light in aged bronze is the closest in character.

Can I buy two for a long dining room?

Yes. Add the quantity you need before checkout. Two at 53cm across usually want at least 1.5m between centres.

Buying Guide

Choosing a wrought iron chandelier

A chandelier does two jobs at once and they pull in different directions. It has to light the room, and it has to look like something worth looking at when it is switched off. Wrought iron designs like this one solve that by being mostly negative space: curved arms, a twisted centre column and six candle stems, so the fitting reads as drawing rather than as mass.

Getting the size right

The frame here is 53cm across. As a rough guide for a dining table, a chandelier looks right at roughly half to two thirds of the table width, so 53cm suits a table from about 80cm to 110cm wide. In a hallway or over a stairwell, judge it against the space rather than the furniture, and remember that a fitting seen from below looks smaller than it measures.

Getting the height right

The chain arrives at 90cm and shortens at any link, which covers most ceilings. Over a dining table, hang it so the bottom of the fitting sits 75 to 85cm above the table top. That is low enough to feel like it belongs to the table and high enough that nobody sitting down is looking into a bulb. In an open hallway, keep the bottom of the fitting at least 2.1m off the floor so no one walks into it.

Bulbs change everything

Six E14 bulbs at up to 40W each is a lot of latitude. A clear candle bulb with a visible filament leans vintage and throws sharper shadows through the arms. A frosted candle bulb is softer and kinder in a dining room. Colour temperature matters more than wattage: 2700K reads as candlelight, 4000K reads as an office. If you want to dim it, buy dimmable bulbs and a dimmer switch rated for LED loads, because a standard dimmer and non-dimmable LEDs is the usual reason a new chandelier flickers.

Fitting it

Everything you need to mount it is in the box, and the instructions cover the order of assembly: build the frame, screw up the centre column, set the chain length, wire in, then fit the bulbs last. It is a hardwired mains fitting weighing 3.22 kg, so the ceiling rose has to be sound. If you are not confident with mains wiring, this is a half-hour job for an electrician and worth the call-out.
