Clean the solar panel with a damp cloth monthly, and more often in spring when pollen settles. A dirty panel is the most common cause of a short run time. Check the stake or the wall screws after a storm. If the light is under a tree, clear leaves off the panel in autumn, because a single leaf across it can halve the charge.

A spotlight is a different tool from a path light. A path light shows you where the ground is. A spotlight picks one thing out of the dark, which is why it goes at the base of a tree, under a wall, or across the front of a house.
Twenty LEDs behind a lens is what makes that possible at this price. The number matters less than the fact that they sit behind a focusing lens rather than a diffuser, so the output goes where the head points instead of spilling in every direction.
The panel is monocrystalline, the more efficient of the two common solar panel types, and it tilts through 120 degrees independently of the light head. That independence is the practical feature: the thing you want to light and the direction of the sun are almost never the same, and a fixed panel forces you to compromise one for the other.
Two brightness modes let you trade output for run time. High gives 6 to 8 hours of stronger light, low stretches to 10 to 12 hours. In midsummer, high all night is realistic. In midwinter, low is the setting that still shows something at six in the morning.
IP65 means dust tight and protected against water jets from any direction, which covers British weather including a hose. The body is high-impact ABS, so hail and a stray football are survivable in a way that a thin-walled plastic light is not.
Both mounting methods come in the box. Stakes for a border or a lawn, screws for a wall, a fence post or a shed. An adjustable extension rod sets the height when it is staked, which is how you get the beam angle right when uplighting.

It is not a motion-activated security light. It comes on at dusk and stays on. For a driveway, the driveway lights or several of these together do more.

Will it survive a frost?
The body is built for heat, frost and moisture. Cold does reduce battery performance, so expect shorter run times in winter.
Where should I put the panel?
Wherever it gets the most direct sun. That is more important than where the light is, which is why the panel tilts separately.
Does it work in shade?
Poorly. A panel in permanent shade will not build enough charge to run through the night.
How do I aim it at a tree?
Stake it 30cm to 60cm from the trunk, set the extension rod for height, then tilt the head up the trunk. Standing back and adjusting after dark is worth the trip.
How many do I need for the front of a house?
Two or three, spaced to graze the wall rather than flood it flat, usually gives a better result than one bright one in the middle.
Is the light warm or cool?
Warm white.
Does it come on automatically?
Yes, it charges by day and lights at night, like any solar garden light.
How tall is it on the stake?
There is an adjustable extension rod, so the height is yours to set within its range.
Can I fit it under a porch roof?
You can mount the light there, but the panel needs sky. Under a solid roof it will not charge.
Does it need any wiring?

How do I clean it?

Getting a solar spotlight to earn its keep
A spotlight is the one outdoor light where placement is most of the result. Get it right
and a plain garden looks designed after dark. Get it wrong and you have a bright dot in
a hedge.
Light the thing, not the space
Decide what you are lighting before you decide where the light goes. A tree, a wall, a
door, a piece of planting. Then place the light so the beam runs across or up that
object rather than straight at it. Grazing light shows texture; flat frontal light
flattens it.
The panel and the beam are two different aims
This is the feature worth using. Set the head for the effect you want, then tilt the
panel for the sun. Most people set both at once, compromise on the panel, and then
wonder why the light does not last. Two adjustments, made separately, in daylight.
High or low
High mode is brighter for 6 to 8 hours. Low is dimmer for 10 to 12. In June, high is
easy. In December, low is the setting that still has something left at dawn. There is no
harm in changing it twice a year.
What it will not do
It has no motion sensor and it is not a floodlight. If the job is deterring somebody
from the side of a house, this is the wrong tool. If the job is making a tree look good
from the kitchen window, it is exactly the right one, and at £29 you can afford three.
